#67) 2006 – Main Camp Road Improvements

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In 2006 the Main Camp Road got a major upgrade. These improvements were  spearheaded by Mark Crane, the founder of Mark’s Pizzeria. After re-grading of the road a geotextile fabric was laid down to keep the gravel from sinking into the mud. Then gravel was laid down all the way from the main entrance to the dining hall. Larger stones were place in and around ditches to help control erosion of the banks. The Road was built in memory of Jeffrey Crane who passed away around the time the road was installed. Please “Like” Mark’s Pizzerea on Face book (http://www.facebook.com/MarksPizzeria#!/MarksPizzeria) if you enjoy the new camp road.

#65) Early 2000’s – Memorial Lodge Renovation

It had served first as the handicraft building, then as the trading post and then as the health lodge. By the early 2000’s it was time for a major over haul of the memorial lodge. During the renovations everything was replace except for the roof structure. They were hoping to save the walls but they needed replacement as well. Todd Mill and Peter Heiderich had a major hand in the upgrading. For several years until 2012 the Memorial Lodge boosted a sleeping capacity of 12 people with a bathroom and a little kitchenette. During the summers it served as the sleeping quarters for the Camp Director. The lento outback was also renovated with a nice patio and hardwood flooring and served as the Program Director residence. Currently (2012) the memorial lodge is serving as the museum for Babcock-Hovey’s 75th Anniversary.

#64) Todd Miller

Todd was born on February 15, 1943, in Canandaigua to the Robert and Marie (Bugbee) Miller. The Miller family moved to Seneca Falls in 1954 where Todd continued his life-long affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America, graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Todd met his wife, Eileen McMahon, in 1961 and they married at St. Patrick’s Church in 1964.
Todd proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Thomas J. Garee. After completing his active duty service with the Navy, Todd returned to Seneca Falls in 1965, and began a career with Gould’s Pumps, Inc. that would span over three decades. He was a long time member of Saint Patrick’s Parish where he served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister. Todd was a member of Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366.
He continued his affiliation with Boy Scouts for over 45 years as a Scout leader achieving honors including the Silver Beaver, the St. George Award, Wood Badge, the Vigil Honor and the Founder’s Award. For 25 years Todd served as an Advisor for Ganeodiyo Lodge 417, Order of the Arrow, Finger Lakes Council. Todd delighted in assisting in the development of young men into future leaders. He was extremely proud of all the young scouts as they grew and matured into successful men. He was always quick to encourage and celebrate in their success. Todd was kind, helpful, and gracious in helping to lift them up when one should stumble. He strived to live according to the moral and ethical principles upheld by his Christian faith and BSA. Todd was extremely proud that all three of his sons achieved the Eagle Scout rank and his daughter achieved the Silver Award from the Girl Scouts of America.
Todd also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the local chapter of Trout Unlimited. He always looked forward to the annual “boys weekend” were he enjoyed good fishing and fellowship with his son, son-in-law and family friends. Many great fishing (AKA Pop’s) stories were made on these adventures, especially about the “one that got away.” Todd’s greatest joy in life was his family and he was faithful in his continuous support of them. Todd dearly cherished his seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He adored watching them explore the world and play at his feet, holding them as babies, and singing his Irish lullabies to them.

Todd Nathan Miller passed on to a peaceful rest after a long battle with cancer came to an end on April 1, 2010 surrounded by his family.
Todd was survived by his wife; sons, Philip (Dawn) and their daughter, Chloe and son, Colin of Covington, La., Martin (Kelly) and daughter, Patricia (Corey) Bigness, and their daughter, Skye and son, Mason of North Syracuse, Daniel (Sherry) and their sons, Devin and Arin of Binghamton; daughter, Victoria (LeVern) Burm and their daughters, Abigail and Amelia of Waterloo; he also leaves behind his beloved dachshund, Lilly, who faithfully stayed by his side, providing him great comfort. Todd hosted an international exchange student, Aiko (Fujji) Chiba, with whom he maintained a life-long friendship. Todd is also survived by his siblings, Robert (Sandra), Thomas, Richard (Andrea), Charles (Anita) Pendell and Susan (Peter) Meca; and several aunts, uncles and cousins who will support his family in this time of need.

#62) 1998- Dining Hall Expansion

There were two big projects completed that cumulated the work of the Capital Campaign Drive. The first being the Dining Hall renovations in the fall of 1998 to the spring of 1999. This included a complete rework of the kitchen where the cooler/freezer were made available from the kitchen. A whole new wing went on the back of the kitchen giving a place for various meeting places and currently houses the Campmaster‘s Corp(2012). A handy ice dispenser (large size) and restrooms for our guest were added. The “Coop” on the northern wing of the dining hall was made into additional dining space. The “Coop” use to house kitchen staff and some female staff members on occasion. Lastly the Dining Hall entrance was removed for the expansion of the dining hall to the west. It currently serves as the gazebo welcoming all guest into camp. The Money for the Kitchen Wing renovations was given by Esther B. Garnsey in memory of her mother Esther D. Blake. The “Annex” section was made in memory of Judge Frederick D. Dugan who was an Eagle Scout and the Finger Lakes Council President in 1977-1978. These expansions made it possible to better serve up to 300 people in the dining hall.
